Women who are fleeing domestic and family violence can more easily find information they need about refuges in their own language, thanks to a new guide.
Challenge DV has partnered with the Combined Women’s Refuge Group of South East Queensland (CWRG SEQ) to develop the short guide, which outlines information about Queensland refuges for women considering fleeing domestic and family violence, translated into 15 languages.
CWRG is the peak body representing the domestic and family violence refuge sector in South East Queensland. The project to develop and translate the guide was funded by Challenge DV, through money raised through Darkness to Daylight.
Women from culturally and linguistically diverse communities face even greater challenges when accessing the support they need to escape harm. The guide aims to unlock one of these barriers by making information about how to safely plan an escape more accessible.
The guide has been translated it into languages that best serve our local communities’ need, including in Arabic, Dari, English, Farsi, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Portuguese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, Urdu, Vietnamese.

The guide was officially launched on 18 May 2022 at the Breaking the Silence through Connection and Collaboration event, which aimed to connect domestic and family violence service providers with leaders of the multicultural community. The event was hosted by Challenge DV, in partnership with Caring is Culture and MACs (the Multicultural Association of Caboolture and Surrounds) and held at MinterEllison’s Brisbane office.
